The fundamental objective of East Usambara Company Limited (EUTCO)
is to produce tea in the most cost effective, sustainable manner
consistent with responsible employment and environmental practices.
Further objectives are: -
a) To sustain the profitability by promoting and engaging in sound
agricultural and manufacturing practices.
b) Attract and retain the best talent by being a good employer
through offering competitive terms and conditions of employment
c) Provide opportunities to learn, contribute and advance; recognise
and reward initiative, innovativeness and creativity
d) Maintain an organizational climate conducive to trust, open
communication and team spirit
EUTCO comprises of 14,164 hectares of which 2,000 hectares are
planted to rain fed tea and 450 to eucalyptus trees, which provide
the fuel wood used in the production of tea. The company produces
approximately 4,000 Tonnes of made tea per annum.
The potential of the Company is 5 Million Kgs of black tea given
a yield potential of 2500 kgs of made tea per hectare. Some of the
fields are yielding over 3500 kgs per hectare.
The company has been encouraging out growers by providing plants
from our own tea nurseries at subsidised rates. There are now over
150 hectares of out grower tea farmers which have a yield potential
of over 250,000 kgs made tea and this area is continuously expanding
on an annual basis. With the recently launched National Tea Development
Program it is envisaged that out grower tea production in the Usambara
mountains will exceed over 1 Million kgs of black tea annually.
